San Pellegrino QC Terme
Situated at the foothills of the Italian Alps, only an hour and a half from Milan, you’ll find San Pellegrino Terme, in the center of the quaint, picturesque town of Val Brembana. My husband and I are avid fans of thermal bathhouses, natural hot springs, and spas. Especially during winter, when the snow transforms the landscape and city into a winter wonderland. Traveling to new spas is one of our favorite adventures, and that’s why I want to share with you why San Pellegrino Terme is a must-visit and has become my favorite hidden gem in Northern Italy.
Most people recognize the name “San Pellegrino” from the famous Italian sparkling water. However, this place has grown into so much more. The San Pellegrino QC Terme thermal bathhouse opened in 1901. A few years later, it expanded into a Hotel and Casino, designed to invite visitors to experience the healing properties of its mineral-rich waters. Over the decades, it has become a symbol of wellness and luxury in Italy. It attracts visitors from around the world seeking relaxation and rejuvenation.
When I first saw the location online, I knew I had to visit—something about it called to me. And let me tell you, it became one of my absolute favorite spots. If I could visit this spa every weekend, I probably would.
The architecture alone feels like stepping into royalty—it’s stunning and fairy-tale-like, especially with the Art Nouveau design throughout that draws your attention to the details. The design blends historic elegance with modern comforts. It makes a perfect sanctuary for relaxation.

The experience begins as you arrive in a parking lot just a short walk from the baths, along a beautiful tree-lined path that feels truly magical. Walking up to the entrance, I couldn’t help but feel like I was entering a castle.
Once inside San Pellegrino QC Terme, we were warmly greeted with a “Buongiorno” and checked in quickly. We received bracelets for our locker rooms and headed inside. The foyer boasts a grand staircase, covered by a plush red carpet. It feels like stepping onto the set of a royal palace. The locker rooms are peaceful, with tall windows overlooking the surrounding trees. They offer hot tea, seating areas, and lush plants that make you feel at ease.
One of the most interesting parts of the facility is the small room dedicated to the history of San Pellegrino, featuring the original fountains used in the past. Everything from lockers, robes, and sandals, to a hairdryer, is thoughtfully provided. This makes your experience seamless.
Whether you booked a lunch or an evening aperitivo, your first stop on your wellness journey is in San Pellegrino Terme.
Now, onto the best features — the pools, saunas, and sensory rooms are simply incredible. There’s a variety of spaces to explore: salt rooms, ice rooms, outdoor pools under the stars, and even a planetary house sauna. As someone who appreciates mindfulness and serenity, I loved having so many options. Especially the quieter, solitary spots if you’re seeking solitude.
This hidden gem in Northern Italy is perfect for neurodivergent travelers. The spa offers different pools and rooms with varying lighting and noise levels, so you can choose what suits your comfort best.

Key Information
The Cost:
- The entrance fee is 48€ to 66€, depending on when you visit. If you book your reservation ahead of time, the cost is about 54€.
- For lunch from 12pm -3pm, the spa offers two meal options: the Wellness Break, priced at 29€, or the Wellness Lunch, priced at 34€. Reservations are limited and subject to availability.
- For the evening, they offer the Wonder Aperitivo from 5 pm to 8 pm. This is included with your admission, which is why this one has been my favorite option.
- A little tip— San Pellegrino QC Terme grants you a free entrance on your birthday or within seven days, provided another paying guest accompanies you.
What to Bring:
- When it’s time to pack, aside from your bathing suit and an extra change of clothes, I recommend bringing a hairbrush.
- If you prefer, you can also bring your own robe and sandals. Trust me, it adds a touch of personal comfort.
When to Visit:
- Any time of year is suitable to visit San Pellegrino QC Terme, as the pools are open year-round.
- Personally, I prefer visiting in fall or winter. The cold air and snow-covered ground create the perfect contrast to the warm, steamy sauna sessions. Sitting in a warm sauna while snowflakes fall through the glass is pure magic.
How to Get There:
- If you have a rental car then you can easily drive to the thermal spa.
- Public transportation – You can take a train to Bergamo and then take a bus.
- BlaBlaCar – a car pooling/ ride sharing service where drivers who commute often can offer their empty seats. Much more reasonably priced than a taxi.
- Book a tour through a company like Tripadvisor or Viator.

Sustainability
San Pellegrino Terme is also committed to sustainability. The spa uses eco-friendly practices, such as water recycling and energy-efficient heating systems, to minimize its environmental impact. Visiting such a place aligns well with eco-conscious travel values, making it a true hidden gem in Northern Italy.
This trip was more than just a spa visit; it was a full-body experience rooted in relaxation, history, and sheer beauty. San Pellegrino QC Terme has definitely become one of my favorite wellness retreats, and I can’t wait to go back.
